Law Firm Marketing

Law Firm Marketing That Fills a Caseload, Not a Lead Sheet

Law firm marketing is the work of putting a law firm in front of people who need a lawyer before they go looking for one, then getting them to intake fast enough to sign. Caseload Marketing runs that work with Meta ads and email for law firms only, and publishes a blended cost per lead across every account we manage. Law firm marketing is all we do.

What is law firm marketing?

Law firm marketing is demand generation for law firms: reaching people in the days after something goes wrong, capturing them before a competitor does, and handing them to intake while they still want to talk.

The difference is timing. Someone hurt on Tuesday decides in days, usually on a phone. Law firm marketing is built around that window, which is why it leans on feed placements, video, fast lead capture and fast intake rather than on search alone.

The second difference is what a mistake costs. A signed case can be worth more than a year of the marketing budget that produced it. That math changes what an acceptable cost per lead looks like, and it is why a firm paying 100 dollars a lead can be doing better than one paying 30.

  • Short decision window. Days, not weeks. The firm that answers first usually signs.
  • Phone-first audience. People are scrolling, not searching, and often cannot drive.
  • High case value. One signed case can cover months of spend, so cost per lead alone is the wrong scoreboard.
  • Bar rules apply to every word. Disclaimers, past results, and testimonials are governed, state by state.
  • Intake decides the outcome. The best campaign in the country loses to a voicemail.

Why is law firm marketing its own discipline?

Law firm marketing is not general marketing with a different headline. These are the things a generalist agency has to learn on your budget.

01

You are bidding against other law firms

Legal services are among the most expensive auctions in advertising, in every channel. Creative that would win in another industry simply does not clear the price here.

02

The creative has to earn trust in six seconds

Someone scrolling past is not shopping. The first seconds decide whether the ad is an interruption or an answer, and stock footage never survives that test.

03

Cost per lead means nothing on its own

A $240 lead in a market with high case values can beat a $32 lead that never signs. We report cost per lead next to what intake did with it.

04

Speed to lead is a marketing metric

The gap between a form submission and the first human contact predicts signed cases better than almost anything upstream, which is why intake is part of the brief.

05

Bar rules sit on every asset

Disclaimers, past-result claims, and testimonials vary state by state, all built on ABA Model Rule 7.1. Every script and ad is checked before it runs.

06

Comparable accounts are an advantage

Running only law firms means a new account is benchmarked against live law firm accounts from day one, instead of starting as an experiment.

That focus is why law firm marketing is the only thing on this site. More on how we work in about Caseload Marketing.

Which channels do we run for law firms?

Law firm marketing runs on two channels here: Meta ads and email. Each has a page of its own with the full method, the numbers, and the case studies.

Meta ads

Facebook and Instagram lead generation. The engine of most law firm accounts: video that builds trust, lead capture that takes under a minute, and daily optimization.

Email & newsletters

Speed-to-lead follow-up for the people who do not sign on the first call, and a monthly newsletter that keeps past clients and referral sources sending work.

How do Meta ads and email compound on a law firm account?

Run separately, two channels are two line items. Run together, each one picks up what the other dropped. This is the order we build toward on a law firm account.

Law firm marketing flow: Meta ads create the lead, email follows up with the ones who stall, and the newsletter keeps past clients and referral sources warm
  1. Meta ads create the lead. Someone sees a short video and reaches out without leaving the app.
  2. Email follows the ones who stall. Most leads do not sign on the first conversation. The sequence keeps the firm present while they decide.
  3. The newsletter keeps the list warm. Past clients and referral sources hear from the firm every month, which is where the cheapest cases come from.

The order matters, and most firms get it wrong by adding channels before the first one is stable. Our process sets out where we start and why.

What does law firm marketing cost per lead?

Few agencies publish what law firm marketing costs them. We do, and blended across every law firm account we run, it is under $100 a lead.

Law firm marketing benchmarks: a blended cost per lead under $100, $1M+ in Meta ad spend managed, 13,000+ leads and a $32 lowest cost per lead

Under $100

Blended cost per lead across our law firm accounts

$31

Lowest cost per lead we have delivered

$1M+

Meta ad spend managed behind the figure

Blended across every law firm account we run, a lead costs under $100. Where a market carries higher case values, we buy deliberately above that, because a more expensive lead is often the cheaper route to a signed case. Any agency quoting you a single target cost per lead before it has seen your case values is guessing. Read the accounts behind this figure in our law firm marketing case studies.

What do we fix first in law firm marketing?

Law firm marketing is rarely broken where firms think it is. A good share of our accounts arrive mid-flight, already spending. Years of running law firms only means we know where to look, and it is rarely the targeting. These are the four we find and fix fastest.

01

We fix intake before we touch the ads

Leads that reach voicemail after 5 pm are not cases. We measure speed to lead first and close that gap, which is usually the quickest win available on an account.

02

We hold the budget steady

Pausing on a quiet week resets the learning and costs more than the quiet week did. We protect the budget long enough for the platform to find your buyers, then scale on evidence.

03

We keep creative in rotation

Fresh scripts and new angles go in before frequency climbs, so cost per lead stays flat instead of drifting up in month four.

04

We get one channel right before adding the next

Meta ads and intake come first on nearly every account. Email and newsletters join once the first channel is producing predictably, which is what makes the second one cheaper.

Both starting points — a brand new account and an account already spending — are mapped out in our process.

Which legal cases do we market for?

The case types below are some of the most popular we market for, not an exhaustive list. Our expertise is not limited to them, and each has its own page.

Car accidents

The volume case type in every market. Highest competition, and the one where creative refresh matters most.

Truck & commercial vehicle

Fewer leads, far higher case value. Worth a cost per lead several times the car accident figure.

Motorcycle accidents

A distinct audience that responds to different creative than a general auto campaign.

Slip, trip and fall

Premises liability. Higher volume, lower value per case — the opposite economics to truck.

Rideshare, pedestrian & bicycle

Many claimants do not know they have a case. The ad has to explain before it asks.

Wrongful death & catastrophic injury

Respectful creative and an immediate human handoff. These calls do not wait.

Workers’ compensation

Volume work where fees are set by the state, and fast, accurate qualification protects intake’s time.

Nursing home abuse & neglect

The client is the family. Calm creative for the adult children who notice the bedsores and the falls, and a simple way for the family to reach the firm.

Law firm marketing: FAQs

What attorneys ask us about law firm marketing before the first call.

How much should a law firm spend on marketing?

Work back from case value rather than from a percentage of revenue. Blended across every law firm Meta account we manage, a lead costs under $100, and the best accounts run far below that. Multiply your realistic lead-to-signed-case rate by your average case value, and the budget that makes sense becomes obvious. We will do that calculation with you before quoting anything.

What is a good cost per lead for a personal injury lawyer?

There is no single good number in law firm marketing, and anyone who gives you one without seeing your case values is guessing. Blended across every law firm account we run, our cost per lead is under $100, and our strongest account has delivered leads at $32. In markets with higher case values we buy deliberately above the blended figure, because a more expensive lead is the cheaper route to a signed case.

How long does law firm marketing take to work?

Most accounts produce their first leads within days of launch. Cost per lead usually settles over the first two to four weeks while the platform learns who converts. A brand new ad account needs a warm-up period before budgets can scale safely, which is the slowest part of a new build.

Is law firm marketing different from general marketing?

Yes, in three ways that matter. The decision window is days rather than weeks, so the channels that work are the ones that reach people before they search. Case values are high enough that cost per lead alone is a misleading scoreboard. And the auction is one of the most expensive in advertising, so creative that would clear in another industry will not clear here.

Which legal cases do you market for?

Popular case types include car accidents, truck and commercial vehicle accidents, motorcycle accidents, slip and fall, rideshare, pedestrian and bicycle accidents, wrongful death and catastrophic injury, workers’ compensation and nursing home abuse and neglect. The list is not exhaustive: our expertise is not limited to these, and each case type runs with its own creative so you can weight the budget toward the cases your firm wants more of.

Do I need both channels to start?

No. Nearly every account we run starts with Meta ads and intake, because that pair produces leads fastest and tells us what the market responds to. Email follow-up and the newsletter get added once the leads are flowing.

Can you work with a firm that already has an agency?

Yes. A good number of our accounts arrive mid-flight, spending but not performing. The first step is an audit of the existing account rather than a rebuild, because the problem is often the offer or the intake rather than the targeting. Our process covers both starting points.

Do you work with firms outside personal injury?

Yes. Personal injury is where we have run the most campaigns, but law firm marketing is the only work we take on, and the case types on this page are not an exhaustive list. Tell us what your firm handles and we will tell you honestly whether we are a fit.

Are personal injury ads allowed under bar advertising rules?

Yes, when they follow your state’s rules. Most states base theirs on ABA Model Rule 7.1, which prohibits false or misleading communications about a lawyer’s services (read ABA Model Rule 7.1). We check every script and ad against the disclaimer, testimonial and past-results rules in the state where it runs, and your attorneys approve before anything goes live.

Do you publish results from real accounts?

Every figure on this site comes from a law firm marketing account we run. Client names are withheld and each firm is identified by its market instead, but the spend, leads, impressions and cost per lead are taken straight from Ads Manager and newsletter reporting. Nothing on this site is an industry average.

Areas we serve

Where do we work?

Everywhere in the United States. Caseload Marketing works with law firms in all 50 states. Every account is run remotely, so where your office sits makes no difference to how we work. What changes from market to market is the competition, the cost of reaching people and your state bar’s advertising rules, and all three are researched before anything goes live.

We have written local guides for some of the markets we know well. If your state or city is not listed below, it does not mean we do not work there, only that we have not written its page yet.
